Dubbo Filmmakers is excited to launch the inaugural Worldwide Smartphone Film Fest 2024
Our One Eye Film Festival has been running for over 10 years, and we've been thrilled by the amazing smartphone films that have been submitted into the festival. So much so that we’ve dedicated this new festival to smartphone and tablet films!
The Worldwide Smartphone Film Fest celebrates smartphone filmmakers from all walks of life from all around the world. As well as a category for local filmmakers, we’re looking forward to seeing the most interesting smartphone and tablet films from around the world. Non-English films are welcome but must include English subtitles.
Categories:
Our shorts category requires films to be 12 minutes or less (including credits).
Our super shorts category requires films to be 90 seconds or less (including credits).
We also have a JOEYS category for films up to 5 minutes long made by students from Dubbo or surrounds.
Genres:
All genres and types of films are welcome, including:
Drama
Comedy
Horror
Fantasy
Documentary
Music video
Experimental
Video art
As well as an opportunity to have your films screened, we are aiming to make the festival a must attend for filmmakers, with workshops and networking opportunities.
Films do not necessarily need to be family friendly but we will not consider films with overly-graphic sex or violence.
We strongly encourage you to include with your project files at least one photo and a trailer or teaser - this makes it a lot easier for organisers to promote your project (if selected).
Please note: longer short films may be accepted by arrangement - please contact us if you would like to be considered.
Our main focus is short films, but there is also a special, non-competitive category for smartphone and tablet feature length films. Only one feature length (over 40 minutes) film will be selected to be screened at the festival. The selected feature film will be granted a $AUD2,000 stipend with a requirement that at least one representative from the film (preferably producer and / or director but key team members such as cinematographer or lead actor(s) are acceptable) must attend the two-days of the festival including the screening, a Q&A session and facilitate a 1-hour workshop on some aspect of the making the film. The stipend is expected to contribute towards all travel and accommodation costs.
NOTE: All selected filmmakers receive 1 complimentary ticket to the festival.
A panel of judges will select a winner in the shorts (one local and one non-local), super shorts (one local and one non-local) and JOEYs categories.

We reserve the right to shortlist feature film entries based on the trailer and commitment by the film team to attend the festival. This means we may not view all submitted feature films in their entirety. The selected feature film will be granted a $AUD2,000 stipend (inclusive of GST or taxes where applicable) with a requirement that at least one representative from the film (preferably producer and / or director but cinematographer or lead actor(s) must attend the two-days of the festival including the screening, a Q&A session and facilitate a 1-hour workshop on some aspect of making the film. All films in the "Short films - local films" category MUST demonstrate a strong link to Dubbo or our region. That link might be thematic, geographic or a delightful accident of birth.
This requirement does not apply to the Australian and International categories.
Local film entries are free for members of Dubbo Filmmakers Inc. Find out more about membership here.
Films to be submitted via FilmFeeway online screener (upload your film to FilmFreeway when you create your project)
Please note: our equipment does not always play nice with ultra high definition. 1080p usually works well.
Please note: if you enter your film in a category for which you are not eligible, your entry may be disqualified and any entry fees will not be refunded. This includes the duration of the project.
