2-day Editing Workshop with Gareth Tillson

About the Course
This will be a practical workshop where participants will take footage, filmed over the previous two days and learn the art of taking raw footage and turning it into a polished finished project. Participants will work with Adobe Premiere Pro software on supplied laptops. Note: If you prefer to work on your own laptop that has Premiere Pro installed, your welcome to do so.

Topics covered:

Premiere Pro Fundamentals: – setting up your project
– PP interface
– assembly/rough cut/fine cut/final cut
– sound design and editing tools in PP
– Titles and Credits design in PP
– colour grading in PP
– FXs and transitions
– Final Output: Mastering and output for web

There will also be a mini-workshop from Dubbo songwriter/musician, Clinton Hoy, on music and songs for film.

3-day Filmmaking Workshop with Gareth Tillson
7-9 Jan, 2019, Community Arts Centre, Dubbo

This will be a practical workshop where participants will work in small teams, to film a complete short film, from screenplays that have been developed with assistance from a screen development executive. Teams will be mentored by industry professional, Gareth Tillson.

The opportunity to produce* one of four short film projects is available. To be involved as a producer*, you must complete the 2-day producer course – more details below.

Previsualisation – resonances/genres/styles/inspirations
Planning – shot list/storyboard/scheduling
Logistics – location recces/gear list/transport
Visual storytelling – sequencing, shot size and coverage

Jan 8-9, 2019 – Filming a short script

Under the guidance of Gareth, teams will film their short film over two days, drawing on the skills and knowledge learnt in the previous 1-day workshop.

Women in Film and Television (WIFT) NSW and Dubbo Film Makers present a special screening of the feature film, Crushed. The screening includes a follow up workshop on making your first feature film and how to navigate independent distribution with Crushed Director/Producer and WIFT NSW president Megan Riakos. This is a joint WIFT NSW and Dubbo Filmmakers event, sponsored by the Western Plains Cultural Centre with funding support from Create NSW.

1-day Directing Workshop with Megan Riakos

About the Course
Under the guidance of feature film director, Megan Riakos, participants will learn how to direct actors for screen as well as how to prepare for the shoot. This will be a practical workshop, with local actors available for participants to practice their directing skills on.

About the Trainer
Megan Riakos is the president of the Not-For-Profit organisation Women in Film & Television NSW, a writer, director, producer and company director of Crushed Film Pty Ltd and Hemlock & Cedar.

Her debut feature Crushed screened at a number of festivals including Montreal World Film Festival, Miami International Film Festival and Napa Valley Film Festival before completing a successful limited theatrical release in Australia.

Megan earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication (Media Arts & Production) at University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) and has completed both a Graduate Certificate in Screen Drama and a Graduate Diploma in Directing at the prestigious Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS). In 2013, she also completed the Professional Screenwriters Program at UCLA.

Megan is also a current member of the ADG, AWG, AACTA, Screen Vixens and Film Fatales.

2-day Producer Workshop with Margaret Tillson

Do you make videos, short films, music videos, or screen content for online? Then this is the course for you.

You may not call yourself a producer, but if you are making the content, organising the interviews or actors, putting it online, entering into festivals – then you are performing the role of a producer and the buck stops with you.

As a content maker/producer, you need to be aware of your legal obligations regarding cast & crew (including volunteers), insurance, copyright, permissions, screen credits, and so much more.

This will be a practical workshop where participants will take a short film script and get it ready for production, with filming taking place in January 2019.

Participants can nominate to be a producer of 1 of 4 short film projects*. This is a great opportunity to receive a producing credit on a finished short film and have a completed project to add to your show-reel.

Note: You do not need to nominate as a producer to do this workshop.

About The Trainer

The facilitator for this course, is industry professional, Margaret Tillson. Margaret is co-owner of Sydney based production company, Front and Centre Media Pty Ltd. Margaret has a depth of production experience across both film and TV on such projects as; Love Child, Doctor Doctor; Hacksaw Ridge and many more.

Margaret holds a Masters in Screen Arts and Business (MSAB) at the Australian Film Television & Radio School (AFTRS), a Post-Grad Certificate, Film & Video Production, University of Technology, Sydney (UTS); and a BA Hons (1st Class) Theatre & Film, University of NSW (UNSW).

Script to Screen – subsidised filmmaking workshops

Thanks to a grant from Create NSW, and sponsorship from the Western Plains Cultural Centre, Dubbo Filmmakers is able to offer a series of subsidised film production workshops in Dubbo. These workshops will be facilitated by industry professionals and will give participants the opportunity to build hands-on experience. You can choose to participate in as many of the workshops as you want.

The workshops are ideal for beginner to intermediate skill levels.
