2019 AFTRS Scholarship for Dubbo LGA Filmmakers

The 2nd annual AFTRS scholarship for filmmakers in the Dubbo LGA is now open for applications. AFTRS (Australian, Film, Television and Radio School), and the Dubbo Filmmakers have joined forces to help overcome the barriers of finance and geography faced by regional filmmakers.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to attend a 2-day course of their choice at the AFTRS Sydney campus, valued up to $720 between July 1 and December 31, 2019.

REX has come on board as travel sponsor and will provide a return flight from Dubbo to Sydney. The successful applicant will be responsible for their own accommodation.

Kellie Jennar, member of Dubbo Filmmakers, said, “Dubbo Filmmakers are thrilled to partner with AFTRS to offer this scholarship for the second year in a row.

“Dubbo is now a recognised regional screen production location, and this scholarship is helping to build screen capacity and talent within the region. We are looking for a local sponsor to come on board to assist the successful applicant with travel and accommodation expenses.”

To apply for the AFTRS scholarship, applicants are required to outline in 500 words or less:

  • The town of the Dubbo LGA they live in
  • Which 2-day AFTRS course they would attend and why (see https://www.aftrs.edu.au/course-types/short-courses)
  • How this course would help their screen career
  • How they would share the skills and knowledge learnt with the local filmmaking community.

Applications should be emailed to herron.robyn@abc.net.au
before 11.59pm, 16 June, 2019.

An independent panel of media professionals will review the applications.

  1. Hi there, I heard a piece on the radio this morning regarding this scholarship, as well as (I think) that there was a need for, or assistance required to help guide filmmakers and writers along the process. I thought I’d drop you a line to let you know that I have recently moved to Orange, but would be more tan willing to mentor or read and give a bit of guidance for any of your group who might want an experienced ear and eye to bounce ideas off. I am a TV Director of 25 years experience in commercial TV production as well as a scriptwriter, and I’d love to get involved if I can be of any assistance. My name is Cath Roden (I’m credited as either Cath or Catherine on IMDB), so drop me a line if you think I can be of any help. Regards, Cath Roden.
